Pretties by Scott Westerfeld

02 Oct

Tally Underwood is now a pretty having undergone the surgery in an attempt to infiltrate the ranks and help other pretties who have “lost their minds” to break out and get cured. However, Tally can only remember bits and pieces of her former life in the Smoke. It takes a few reminders by fellow Smoke folk and the realization that Specials are watching her every move to bring Tally to a crossroads. Is it time for a revolution?

A quick paced novel that follows the feel and flow of the first book in the trilogy Uglies. The characters are mildly developed and you learn little new about them. The storyline is tense and foreboding as the reader waits to see what will happen to the rebellion and who is really controlling who. The frame of a futuristic society where everyone is forced to be the same for their own good is integral to the overall feel of the trilogy. 2005, 370 pages.
