Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore

01 Oct

What was Jesus (Joshua) like growing up? Did he pull pranks, disobey his parents and punch his best friend? You bet. Here from the dead, Biff, Joshua’s best friend has been resurrected to tell what really happened from the manger to the Sermon on the Mount. Struggling to determine if he is truly the Messiah, Josh & Bigg set out to find the three wise men in an adventure of Buddhism, Hinduism, Yoga and Kung Fu. In the process-they discover Joshua’s destiny.

Very funny book that pokes fun at all kinds of religious traditions. Moore puts Joshua on a “human” level, someone who is not perfect, but always kind, accepting and struggling. A character driven, irreverently reverent novel that could be considered offensive to some straight-line Christians. 2002, 408 pages.
