Emphasis on people and their reaction to events. A nice balance between interior and exterior is achieved. The book has a pretty quick pace, something is always happening and there is a lot of dialogue. The setting of the Everglades is essential to the moral of the novel although the background is fairly minimal. Agenda is set by the author. The characters are well-drawn with a few changes in viewpoint. 2004, 355 pages.
