Francesca’s Party by Patricia Scanlan

19 Sep

After years of being the perfect wife and mother, Francesca Kirwan finds her life changed irrevocably one dismal autumn afternoon when her husband, Mark, forgets his cell phone.  In the space of 10 minutes her comfortable, safe and uneventful existence is completely shattered.  With her life turned upside down and an extremely uncertain future ahead of her, she has two choices…sink or swim!

A densely written novel with a variety of viewpoints. Characters are slow to reveal but they are memorable and will stick with the reader as they grow.  The focus is interior and psychological-almost a character study in how the characters react to the events that change them.  Set in Ireland, but not really key to the tone of the book-could be set anywhere.  2001, 375 pages
